This week it is my privilege to recognize one of the greatest assets in our church. Ten years ago when we were in need of a quality custodian, I was introduced to Larry Sharo. Larry’s wife Nancy had recently joined our congregation and through her encouragement he applied for the position. I smile now when I remember that Larry took the job here on a trial basis. The thought was that we were trying him out. But perhaps he was examining us even more so.
From the first day there has been no regret and only delight in Larry’s place on our staff. Larry’s steadfast reliability means we never worry that our facilities will be ready for whatever ministry is occurring. He comes in early and will stay as long as the task requires. And on numerous occasions he adjusts his work hours to accommodate a ministry event on our calendar.
I can hardly speak of Larry without mentioning the services he does for our church outside his caretaking duties. He is our personal computer guru, evaluating, repairing, and advising on many electronic issues. He is our “fix it man” for electrical, plumbing, and general repairs. Larry assists in the adult Bible Study class that his wife teaches. On his own time he routinely picks up supplies for the church in Chattanooga. Larry consults and conducts church yard sales for a variety of our ministries. To top it off Larry regularly provides the Wednesday night Prayer Meeting group with coffee and homemade treats. What a guy!
This week we affirm Larry’s TENTH ANNIVERSARY as part of our church staff. It is hard to believe how fast the time has passed. But in another perspective, it is as if he has always been here. I guess that makes him family. Be sure to communicate your appreciation to Larry the next time you see him. You will probably have to interrupt some project he’s doing for us around here. Stop him anyway and tell him Thank You!
