where love is alive

“It’s the most wonderful time, of the year!” No, I’m not a month behind Christmas; I’m talking about DiscipleNow Weekend- Catalyst 2019!!!!  We are just a week away from my favorite weekend of the year.  Many of you are familiar with Catalyst Weekend (Remember from last year- We have given DNow a full-time name, Catalyst), but for those of you that aren’t, it is a weekend of fun with our teenagers that is fully targeting discipleship.  We focus deeply on our students growing in their faith and learning more about the Lord.  We have large group worship times, small group conversation times, as well as a service learning time.  Our speaker is Sam Landrith who currently serves as a youth pastor in middle Tennessee.  He was our camp pastor last summer and we can’t wait to have him around again!  Steven Johnston will be leading worship for us and will be assisted by Cody Disney and a few of his friends from Public Church.  Speaking of them, we have invited both Public Church and Michigan Avenue Baptist to join us this year for our Catalyst Weekend, and we are excited that they have said yes!  It should be a fantastic weekend of discipleship and growing closer to Jesus as a community of young believers.

The thing I love the most about our annual Catalyst Weekend is it gives our church members an opportunity to be a part of our Student Ministry.  It takes place here on our campus rather than in a cabin in the woods or a conference center.  It helps our students see that our church members really do love them and support them (and NCBC does this VERY well).  Church members have the opportunity to be around to serve our students meals, pray for our teens or just help with the details.  We generally will use our youth worker volunteers to host homes and lead groups, but anyone can be involved in some way for the weekend.  One way your Sunday School Class could be involved would be by “adopting” a Catalyst “family”.  By adopting a family you would be agreeing to pray for the group all weekend, and if you are up to it, maybe take them some yummy treats or write them encouraging notes.  This would include the students in the group, their group leader and their host family.  If your SS class would like to “adopt” a family, let me know and I will get you the roster!  It will be a challenge because the roster will change up until Friday night of Catalyst, but I can give you what I have and then we can trust the Lord with the rest!  Another way to help would be to show up at one of the weekend meals and be available to serve, and really just love on the kids.  Just let me know if you are coming!

As always thank you for your support of both me and our Student Ministry.  We couldn’t do this without you- and I personally do covet your prayers.  It seems our enemy always throws challenges at me Catalyst weekend (usually sickness) and I would appreciate you all covering me with your prayers over the next week!

In Him!

Jason
