where love is alive

Five Reasons to Join Choir

  1. We are a family – There is a strong bond and connection in the choir. It is a place to belong and be known.  When asking the choir recently about why they spend their time in choir and why they choose to give of that time, over and over again, people said they felt a closeness to the people in the choir and like they were part of a bigger family.  It is a safe place to share needs and concerns.  Like a family we have our quirks, but we love each other through them.  Through our time of prayer and devotion together and our time spent learning new music, we gain a bond and know that we have people by our side.  It is a blessing to be a part of this family inside the larger body of NCBC.
  2. It’s a great way to get connected to the church – This one very much goes along with #1. We are a community.  We strive for connection in the choir.  We give people a place to use their talents and gifts that they may not be able to use anywhere else in the church.  If you are looking for a place to serve in the church, come to choir and start here.  Some of our members are the most active in serving in our church not only through the choir but other avenues of ministry in the church as well.
  3. You can learn music – We may not have time to teach you everything about reading and learning music, but you will gain a basic knowledge of music such as following melodic lines and reading basic signs. You will come away with a general knowledge of music from joining the choir.
  4. You don’t have to be a soloist or proficient at reading music – I have so many that tell me, “Well I don’t know how to read music” or “I’m not a great singer,” “I’m not a soloist.” The great thing is you don’t have to know how to read music because we cover all of the parts and I give you music to listen to in order to help you learn.  Also, a choir is not made up of a bunch of soloist or dynamic singers.  A choir is not about showcasing one person.  A choir is about a community coming together to blend and harmonize to make beautiful music.  That takes people of all kinds of varying skills and levels.  A choir is made up of many different people and skill levels all singing for one purpose– to glorify God.
  5. Lead the church body in worship – The best part of being in choir is getting to fulfill our calling of worshiping the great God of the universe and assisting to lead others into His presence. We are created beings that have no greater calling than to worship and glorify God.  Many times in the Bible scripture tells us, “All the earth bows down to you; they sing praises to you, they sing the praises of your name.”  Psalm 66:4.  We were made to praise.  Again, in speaking with the choir about why they come, many expressed a sense of joy in getting to praise and to be able to lead others in praise to the King.  It is a fantastic responsibility.

I hope that you will pray and consider joining us in the choir.  It is a wonderful place to belong and connect and fellowship with the body.

God Bless,

Lanny
