where love is alive

We spend lots of time waiting.  Waiting for answers to tests.  Waiting for a table at a restaurant.  Waiting in line at the store to check out.  Waiting for the traffic light to change so that we can go somewhere in our car.  Waiting in Doctors’ offices.  But, with God we don’t want to wait.  We want an instant fix.  We want an immediate answer.  We are instructed to wait on you Lord.

Isaiah 40:31 – But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Psalm 27:14 – Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!

Psalm 37:9 – For evildoers shall be cut off; but those who wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

Psalms 37:34 – Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land.

Waiting can be an anxiety inducing, stress filled exercise if we have the wrong perspective.  If we sit and worry about the outcome and wring our hands, it becomes a matter of turmoil instead of building our faith.  If we put our faith and hope in the Lord and His timing and stand on His promises and trust that He knows best it can change our perspective from worry to anticipation.  When we are waiting for Christmas to come we do so with a spirit of hope and anticipation wondering what we are going to get or what might be under the tree.  If we think about waiting on God like that, it changes our demeanor.  Every day is a gift from God, and He is so much more faithful and gracious and generous than we are.  His word tells us in Matthew 7:11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”  We may not always get what we want, when we want it but, His timing is perfect and he knows what we need.

Second, the most important wait we have is we wait for His second coming.  We are to be watching the skies and be prepared, but we are to be taking people with us.  We don’t know the day nor the hour.  “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour which the son of man is coming,” Matthew 25:13.  He promised us in John 14 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.  In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”  We have a place where we will spend eternity with Him.  We just need to be ready and waiting with anticipation for his return.

God Bless,

Lanny
