where love is alive

Election Day

“Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises!  For God is the King over all the earth.  Praise him with a psalm.  God reigns above the nations, sitting on his holy throne.  The rulers of the world have gathered together with the people of the God of Abraham.  For all the kings of the earth belong to God.  He is highly honored everywhere.”

Psalms 47:6-9

As I sit here writing this article it is election day.  It is the day that many have waited for with expectancy while others with anxiety.  To the world this seems like a day of great importance.  A turning point day for our country.  While I don’t want to downplay the importance of electing leaders and participating in voting, I do want to share with you a few thoughts.  As a Christian we should have a different outlook and perspective on the fate of our country and this election.  We, as children of the Father, need to rest in the fact that no matter who sits in the oval office, our King sits in heavenly places and He has the ultimate last word on what happens in this world.  Our eternity isn’t wrapped up here.  This is just a short stop on our journey, and we need to set our eyes on heaven.  That is the prize. We have been in a season of prayer in our church and I just want to give you a few things to continue to pray about.  I hope that prayer won’t stop at the end of this season but will become a part of your daily lifestyle.  Here are a few things to continue to pray about as we move forward.

Instead of wringing our hands in worry let’s fold those hands in prayer and pray that the King of eternity will have His way not just in our lives, but in our country.

Pray for Revival.  Revival starts with God’s people.  It starts with you and me.  When we get serious and remove all of the distractions from our lives and focus on God, He can start to do something in us that will change the world around us.  I don’t know about you but if 2020 has done anything, it has certainly stripped away a lot of distractions and helped me focus in on more important things.  We need to set our eyes on Jesus, and He will revive and restore us.

Pray that God would give you faith.  With faith we can do a lot of things.  But also, as I have read recently “where faith is fear cannot also live.”  Faith and fear cannot reside in the same place.  When we put our hope and faith in the Lord it is hard to be fearful because, God has the ultimate control.

Pray that our leaders would hear the gospel and turn their ears to Him for wisdom and guidance.  I hope that we would pray this for all of our leaders no matter what party they are in or if you agree with them or not.  We cannot rest in the securities of this world.  Our only security is in Jesus.

Lastly, instead of talking about the election and its outcome, talk about God and share the gospel.  There will be people who won’t want to hear it and will turn you off, and that is ok.  Our job as believers isn’t to tickle people’s ears.  It is to share the gospel and make disciples to take along with us on this journey.

I hope that this gives you some encouragement today.  God is in control and is on His throne.

God Bless,

Lanny
