where love is alive

About Our Preschool Ministry

The goal of the Preschool Ministry is to provide a safe, happy learning environment in which to meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of young children. It is the desire of our church to provide experiences for preschoolers which would begin to lay a foundation for future Christian growth and commitment.

“Train up a child in the way he should go…and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 22:6

Message from our Preschool Director

Welcome to North Cleveland Baptist Preschool Ministries. We desire to offer activities and opportunities to help your family have positive, Christian experiences at church. The first five years of a child’s life are most crucial for learning, and we try to teach Biblical truths that lay a solid foundation for children to grow in their understanding of God’s love and grace. Your child is very important to us, and we want our time together at church to be rewarding and meaningful. Please read this information to help insure your family can worship and experience spiritual growth together.

In His Service,

Amy Wilkins
Director of Preschool Ministries

General Information for Parents

  • The Preschool Department is provided for children ages birth – kindergarten. For the safety of our preschoolers and to provide the best teaching environment, only preschoolers and their teachers should be in the preschool rooms.
  • Preschool facilities will be open 15 minutes prior to regular church-wide activities and services.
  • Preschoolers may be brought to the preschool division only when the person bringing them is attending a church function.
  • Under no circumstances are children to be left unattended in the preschool areas.
  • Please pick up your child promptly following church functions.
  • Preschoolers are to be brought and picked up by their parent or adult guardian; brothers and sisters should not call for a child.
  • When bringing your child to the preschool area, you should:

1. Take your child to the preschool welcome area, sign the child, receive your security card, indicate where you will be and place a numbered name tag on your childs’ back.

2. Label all items belonging to your child. Indicate any special instructions for your child.

3. To insure security, you may pick up a pager at the welcome area.

  • To avoid congestion in the preschool area, only one parent should bring and come for a child. The parent should knock and wait for the teacher to answer and then bring the child to him/her. As your child begins to walk, allow him to walk into his room. This will build confidence and independence.
  • Babies and toddlers are promoted by development or the need to provide more equally sized classes. Children who have reached their 2nd birthday by October 1 of the current Sunday School year will be promoted annually.
  • Children older than preschool age are to be accompanied by an adult while in the preschool area.
  • In case of an emergency, children will be taken to an appropriate safe area by the teachers as soon as possible. Examples: fire – outside, tornado – basement, etc.
  • The Director of Preschool Ministries will be responsible for preschool child care only.

Ways Parents Can Help

  • For a child’s first experiences at church to be happy and meaningful, the major responsibility is in the hands of the parents.
  • A child’s adjustment to church is much more difficult after seven months of age, so we recommend bringing the child to church early and regularly. However, we do not recommend bringing newborns until they are six weeks old.
  • Pray for your child’s teachers each week.
  • Attend parent activities planned for parents of preschoolers. These opportunities will equip you as a parent and allow us to work as a team in the spiritual development of your child.
  • Begin talking to your child positively during the week about going to church. Use the child’s teachers’ names and the names of other friends in his/her class frequently when talking about happy times at church.
  • Do not attempt to slip away from your child when you bring him/her to class. Tell him in a kind, firm voice that you are going but will be back soon. Then leave immediately. If your child continues to be upset, the teacher will come for you.
  • Volunteer for extended session. Contact the Director of Preschool Ministries for more information.
