where love is alive

Set Your Eyes on Christ

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.  Hebrews 12:1-3

As we look at another school year coming to an end and we see these young men and women who are going out into the world.  They are graduating into a world of opportunities ahead of them.  There will also be a lot of things that will pull at your heart and try to distract you.  This world is so full of beautiful and wonderful things, but it is also full of things that would try and pull your heart and attention from Christ.  As the Scripture says, you are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.  There are people watching you and observing how you handle adversity.  They are looking to see how you treat people.  They are looking to see if your faith is genuine.  Remember to not fix your eyes on them or the things of this world but fix your eyes on Jesus who is author and perfector of our faith.  Let him guide you.  Draw closer to Him.  When you begin to question, seek answers from Him and from the word and a trusted community of faith.  Get yourself plugged into a church body and a small group Bible study that will help you get closer to God.  Jesus took the punishment and endured the cross so that we would have an advocate and a place to go in the struggles of life.  As the old hymn says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus.  Look full in His wonderful face.  And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.”  Set your eyes on Him and let Him guide you through this life.  Our ultimate reward waits in heaven and there is “no other way to the Father accept through Him.”  I pray this scripture from Numbers 6:24-26 over our graduates:

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.

God bless,
