where love is alive

Typically when I hear the song, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” it makes me think of Christmas, since it is a song written for that holiday.  However, when I sat down to write this article about Vacation Bible School the line in that song kept running through my head. I look forward to this week all year long, and not having VBS last summer makes this year even more special! In my opinion, being able to share Jesus with a building full of children is one of the most important things we could ever do!  And it doesn’t stop with the children in this building, but is carried into each home and shared with family members as well. Some of you may ask, is planning and carrying out VBS stressful? The answer is yes, and it takes months of work and planning! You might also ask if teaching VBS everyday gets tiring? It most definitely does! But if one person places their trust in Jesus and comes to know Him as their Lord and Savior as a result of VBS, every stressful, tiring minute is so worth it!

As we move to the final few days of preparation I would like to ask that you keep all of the VBS leaders and helpers in your prayers. Please pray for guidance and focus as they prepare the daily lessons, and for strength, stamina and adequate rest during VBS week. Pray for the workers who are serving snacks, guiding the children to make crafts and playing games with them during the week, may the children see the love of Jesus shine through them. Most importantly please pray for the heart of each child who will attend VBS and for the families they represent. We have confidence that the Lord can and will do amazing and wonderful things when we make ourselves available to carry out the plans He has set before us.

If you would like to be a part of this exciting week of outreach to our community, here are some ways you can still be involved:

  • PRAY! This is something everyone can do and even when you can’t be there in person, you can still be connected through prayer.
  • If you want to be involved, but can’t commit to each day, we can still use people to help with registration on Monday and Tuesday and help direct people as they arrive those first couple of days.
  • People are also needed to sit at the snack tables each day to greet the children and help them as needed.
  • We are also taking donations for the Teacher Snack Station. If you can send individually wrapped snacks for the workers to grab and go during the day, we would greatly appreciate it! Some ideas are fruit, trail mix, granola bars and drinks.

If you can help with registration or manning the snack tables, please contact me or call the church office to volunteer.  If you are able to provide snack items for the workers, you can drop these off at the church office between 8:30-4:30 each weekday.  Remember VBS is next week, June 21-25 from 9:00-12:00 each morning. Come join us, you will be blessed!
